I recently re-sold Australia’s version of Yankee Stadium, the MCG – a project I first did back in 2003 when I was just 21 — and how I got the tagline ‘Australia’s Richard Branson’ from the Aussie media.

It was a great success when I first undertook the project, but this time around, it was much more organised, and on may levels a more successful project – (the reason why is below)

… and that’s even after I received a cease and desist letter right in the middle of the campaign that threatened to shut the whole thing down.

When opened the doors to the online sales page, we received a very nice 5 FIGURE PROFIT in the first 12 hours – with out any affiliates !!!

Not bad for a project, I launched on-the-side for a bit of fun.. and to help get some of the remaining MCG carpet out of my mums garage.

The reason for the success – http://www.preneurmarketing.com/MCGsecret

It was a downright, good old fashioned Product Launch…

A Jeff Walker product launch…

If you don’t know Jeff Walker, he’s the guy with all the strategery (yes, I’m sure that’s a word) behind all the crazy online product launches.

… and Jeff has just released his Product Launch Blueprint for free.

You get the PDF Blueprint PLUS a video that walks you through the entire blueprint …

… the exact same strategy, plan and process I used just a month ago to resell the Melbourne Cricket Ground…

.. and it cost me a few thousand dollars to have one of his trained coaches help me out during the launch.

Obviously, you have to enter your email to get this… but there is no cost, and there’s no hidden upsells or continuity or anything.

Get it now before Jeff pulls it down on Tuesday: http://www.preneurmarketing.com/MCGsecret

IMPORTANT: be sure to print out the PDF so you can take notes as you go through the video.

Seriously, this is a pretty powerful document to have in your swipe files… whether you market online or offline.

It’s worked for me, and I know it will work for you.

Pete

P.S. There’s even a hidden “resources” section that Jeff must have snuck in at the last second – it doesn’t show up in the training video, but it’s in the actual Blueprint.

P.P.S. There are also a few other videos one the site you can watch as well – including a breakdown of Apple’s recent iPhone 4 launch.

With the release of Tim Ferriss‘ newly updated Four Hour Work Week; I wanted to answer a question I’ve often been asked:

“What’s the difference between the Thirty Day Challenge and the 4 Hour Work Week?”

Before I jump down this rabbit hole, for those who are not familiar with the phenomenon that is Tim Ferriss’ Four Hour Work Week…

The 4HWW in a nutshell talks around the acronym DEAL (coined by Ferriss) which stands for: Definition, Elimination, Automation, and Liberation.

The book (like the acronym) starts with Definition; figuring out what you really want for your lifestyle, and doing the sums to figure out what it will really cost to get there. It’s amazing how much it doesn’t cost to live like a king in Argentina.

Elimination is all about time management, or rather about not managing time. In my opinion this is the main take-away from the book; and is achieved by applying the 80/20 rule to focus YOUR time only on those tasks that contribute to your goal; and leaving the rest to an outsourced team (by taking advantage of geo-arbitrage)

The thirst section of the book is focused on Automation; and is about building a sustainable, automatic source of income. It’s here that the similarities with the 30DC appear.

Finally Tim ties everything together with Liberation; the goal of the ‘new rich’ = successful automation of one’s lifestyle and the liberation from a geographical location and job.

As I said above, The 30 Day Challenge relates to only one element of the 4HWW D.E.A.L. – the Automation component.

It’s in this section of the book that Tim does a great job of giving an overview of the ‘online business building’ process in the context of the entire ‘new rich’ philosophy, and making the process look achievable for everyone, because it really is.

This new rich philosophy, presented in the ‘Definition’ section, really drives home the ‘why’ in ‘why should I be doing this’ …

And it’s the WHY which is missing around the current 30DC format, which in my opinion, is one of the driving factors behind us putting together our own book (due out mid 2010) – Although Ed try’s to set the context during the pre-season and Day 1, the book will give us an outlet to give a much more detailed, detached and objective commentary on the 30DC philosophy, what it takes to create a successful business online, and our definition of ‘WHY’

Having said that, there is only so much step-by-step you can cover in a book – and where the 4HWW is weak the 30DC is strong (stronger than any other online training program period. Paid or Free) The 30 days of the 30DC is a lot more detailed on the ’steps’ you need to do it get your ‘muse’ off the ground and make your first $1 online.

Tim provides links to some great ‘tools’ in his book, but can’t go into a lot of detail on ‘how (and why) to use these tools’, which leaves the reader fending for themselves – and this is the void which the 30DC fundamentally fills.

With over 20 hours of free step-by-step (screen capture) video tutorials, the 30DC is the best partner for implementing the ‘Automation’ section of the 4HWW, and making a dent in that automated income goal.

… but more than simply being a online course (library), the 30DC is as much about ‘testing a niche’ as it is about starting a business – but more on this in the upcoming book.

So… What’s your take on the 4HWW and the 30DC – and how have either made a difference to your life?
Actually – I just came across this cartoon on my backup drive – I had it created a few years ago, for a launch that never eventuated… Anyway, I thought I would dust it of and throw it up here.

For those that can’t work it out; the characters here are: (left to right)
John Carlton, Brad Fallon, John Reese, Andy Jenkins (looking kinda pregnant – sorry about that mate – not not sure why you’re not talking about your Emmy.), Ed Dale, Frank Kern (apparently no-one wants to see his face ?!?) , Jason MoFo, Dan Raine (and his little pick thong), Mike Filsame, Rich Schefren, Jeff Walker, Armond Morin, Yaro Starak , Yanik Silver (was doing some part-time stand-up at the time), Guy Kawasaki, Alex Mandossian, Scott Ginsberg, Seth Godin and Perry Marshall.

And yes it’s true… It appears that Google is now indexing the Apple Itunes App Store.

Now This Is BIG News….

See, one of the ‘keys’ that a lot iPhone Application developers have missed when trying to sell/market/distribute their applications is that have relied on the App Store itself to generate the sales…

They are coders, not marketers – and this is where you and I have the upper hand.

Making the type of money you can ($37,000USD in one day) with an iPhone App is not another Kevin Costner ‘baseball’ movie…

If You Built It… They Will Not Come.

Just like any other business project, it’s not about the product….

It’s the marketing that typically makes the difference between success and failure.

Market Research and Traffic are the first two steps for any business project for a reason.

And with Google now indexing the App Store… here comes the traffic.

What will be interesting to see, is ‘how much’ traffic people start to get, what the conversion rates will be, and ‘how to’ influence your Apps position in the SERPs.

Side Note: The name you give your app and the keywords you use in your Apps description have never been so important:

p.s. I’ll have an update on the 30DC Book, along with a more detailed report (and maybe some interviews) on iPhone App marketing up here in the coming weeks.

p.p.s. I also wanted to let you know about a bundle of free gifts worth over $1,500 that my buddy Shaun is giving away – You can check them out at
http://www.internetmarketingcoaching.com.au/PreneurMarketing … WARNING! While you are there you will see a pitch.. a pitch for a coaching program I can highly recommend. Shaun is one of the few Australian internet marketers that have the runs on the board. Anyway, check it out and at least consider the offer.

It’s going to be a loooong post, so grab a cup of green tea, put on those slippers and settle in.

Blog Action Day Background

“Blog Action Day is an annual nonprofit event that aims to unite the world’s bloggers, podcasters and videocasters, to post about the same issue on the same day.

It began in 2007 when a few bloggers started asking how they could use their medium to do something socially conscious. It started with a little “What if …” question about getting lots of bloggers to post on the same day about the same issue. This resulted in 20,000 bloggers with a combined audience in the millions posting about the Environment.

This year the theme is Poverty. By working together on one issue on the same day– October 15th — the blogging and podcasting community can change the conversation on the web and focuses audiences around the globe on the issue of World poverty. The hope is by starting a global discussion we can all help bring about both personal actions and a raised awareness for global poverty action going on.”1

Philanthropy 2.0 – Kiva

Kiva is without a doubt my personal charity of choice and is also the charity of choice for us all over at The Thirty Day Challenge. They do amazing work in supporting entrepreneurs in third world countries, and as such, we can do nothing but give them our wholehearted support. This is something that we believe is so in-tune with the ethos of the Thirty Day Challenge, and I implore you to take a closer look.

As they say on their website “MySpace has changed the way the entertainers relate to their fans, Craigslist has changed the way people find a job or a room-for-rent, Kiva has changed the way people give back”.

Kiva lets you connect with and loan money to unique small businesses in the developing world. By choosing a business on Kiva.org, you can “sponsor a business” and help the world’s working poor make great strides towards economic independence. Throughout the course of the loan (usually 6-12 months), you can receive email journal updates from the business you’ve sponsored. As loans are repaid, you get your loan money back.

Kiva is the world’s first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals (or groups like the ThirtyDayChallenge) to lend directly to an entrepreneur in developing countries such as Azerbaijan, Samoa, Tanzania and Uganda. By combining microfinance with the Internet, Kiva is creating a global community of people connected through lending.

During the 2007 challenge we raised over $6,500 for Kiva and this year we raised over $9000… and that’s just the begining. Stay tuned on the 30DC BLOG as we will be releasing some ‘uber-cool’ merchandise very shortly; where all the proceeds will go to our Kiva Account.

So whether you are a world wide phenomenon like the 30DC, one person like my friend Ross Hill (who brought B.A.D. to my attention), or a company like Infiniti Telecommunications (where we donate a % of all profits to charity) you really need to support this planet and the people in it.

Maybe you could look at offloading some old ‘junk’ on eBay and donate the proceeds to a charity

Maybe you could arrange for all the ‘profits’ from one days worth of sales (at our company) goes to charity

I know a few people who donate their tax refunds to charity… It’s money they don’t budget for, so they never miss it, but it changes the world

Ever thought about stocking a ‘particular product line’ where all profits from that product goes to charity – Could also be a great PR angle aswell

Try and convince your boss to match charitable donations staff members make this month

Look at offloading surplus or aged stock as a charitable act

Donate that surpluss stock to groups such as the Basket Brigade

Speaking of the Basket Brigade, pencil this years Packing Day into your diary

Get some friends or work pals together and sponsor a child as a group

LearnAboutPoverty.org

LearnAboutPoverty.org was set-up by World Vision Australia as resource blog for Blog Action Day. When they heard that Blog Action Day was going to be focused on poverty this year, they sat bolt upright in their chair and immediately asked “how can we participate in this?”

Now, they also teamed up with Darren Rowse over at ProBlogger to ask the community “How World Vision Australia can develop a better blogging and social media strategy?”

In helping World Vision eliminate poverty via Blogging and Social Media, I’ve taken a slightly different approach to my entry by listing more ‘actions’ that can implemented TODAY, as opposed to ‘high level’ strategy.

Strategy is great, but in my dealings with non-profits… there tends to be an overwhelming amount of discussion around ’strategies’… which results in wasted time and either little, costly or no ‘actionable’ ideas.

As Steve Hopkins pointed out the “need to drop ‘orange curtain’ of world vision and let the blogging (read:social/world) community see the real people working to alleviate poverty” is a MUST…

So here are my ‘actionable’ strategy ideas for World Vision, which they can implement NOW, for very little cost which will drop the curtain..

TWITTER

Create a twitter account where World Vision (WV) can tweet little bits of information about poverty and what they are ‘doing’ to combat it.

For example:

“The WV Africa team, just helped build a toilet in {3rd World Country} today.”
“Did you know that {something terrible} happens somewhere in the world ever {3 seconds} seconds”
“Thanks to our {3rd world continent} team, they gave a village in {3rd world country} water today. 476 can now drink”

I think this would be something a lot of people would follow as it would be a constant (somewhat subtle) way to be constantly reminded of the greater world we live in… and that there is more important things in the world then what “@Scobleizer is doing right now”

VIDEO BLOGGING

Showing short 2 min videos from aid workers in the field. Volunteers and WV workers, can simply record a short 2min video showing what is ‘actually’ being done. I think a lot of people have a real disconnect between the donation and the end physical result. Video blogging would be a really great way of breaking down that barrier.

By seeing the ‘moving’ faces of people donations help, and the projects it funds… it would build a stronger bond and a stronger bond creates a stronger commitment and consistency result.

And the beauty of video is that people can SEE, what is being done without having to actually know which country the work is being completed in.. This could hopefully help reduce the ‘issues’ of staff placed in hostile environments..

It’s about showing me the ‘actions’ being done…. I don’t particularly care which country it is in, as long as I can see the positive effect on another human being - We all live on the same planet, countries are just lines.

FACEBOOK APPLICATION

A Facebook application could do a similar thing to the tweets mentioned above… You will find that a lot of people would ‘install’ this application to simply “look” like they are “doing the right thing”, but even if that’s the case social proof is a powerful force.

The WV Facebook app, could be a great tool for participants in things such as the 40hr famine, to generate sponsorships and encourage their ‘network of friends’ to sponsor them. It could list ‘their funds’ raised so far and which of their friends have sponsored them (there’s that social proof thing again – If Scott sponsored Sarah, I should too)

KIVA STYLE PROJECT FUNDING

Create a social network style platform, similar to KIVA.org where people can sponsor individual projects…

“The building of a toilet in {country} requires total donations of $X”
“To give {community} clean running water, we need to raise $X”

People could then link to, add banners/buttons on the ‘project’ they are trying to support on their own blogs… That way it can go viral and their viewers/readers can get involved.

“I blog for free because I like it.. so if you want to say thanks to me, sponsor the project I support by clicking here”

BUILD A LIST

On any of the WV sites I looked at there is not a clear or obvious way for people to join the WV e-mailing list.

I know there would be thousands of people who would supply their email address in an effort to be kept-updated on all things WV. You can’t expect people to continually visit the site(s) for updates… Get their details and keep them abreast – the world is too busy, and Facebook is too distracting.

The real asset WV (or any business has for that matter) is it fans/supporters… The WV brand is only as strong as it’s ‘followers’ (theirs a web2.0 cliche) so make it EASY for these people to become part of your community buy having a ‘join our mailing list’ box prominently on your homepage.

AND yes, a mailing list is a community.

RUN SOME CONTESTS that cause viral epidemics.

Get a major to sponsor a ‘best viral video’ award each year, with the winner getting a round the world flight.

Give away a MacBook Pro to the person who creates the best ‘online flash game’ that revolves around poverty.

With every major ‘marketing/awareness’ campaign you choose to embark on, get the marketing material created via a ’social contest’ – It removes the ‘advertising budget’ WV would otherwise invest, it creates a community, it gives budding artists/designers/videographers a chance to build their portfolio and it generates lots n lots of buzz

Go to the elance.com ’s of the world, get them to ‘advertise’ the contest to a GLOBAL marketplace of budding artists.. and you never know, you may just find the winner comes from a third world country that needs the support/exposure – Not all poverty is financial.

Hey, here’s an idea… Instead of trying to create your own Web 2.0 social network community (which will ALOT of hard work)… just piggy back off the ones that exist… Simply go to every major web 2.0 community site, find out what there niche is and leverage off that.

www.AllRecipes.com could run a contest around the best recipe made from a ‘poverty stricken countries’ main produce… Creates exposure, conversations and donations.
www.LinkedIn.com could sponsor a Kiva style ‘mico-lending’ project… Creates exposure, conversations and donations.
http://www.iminlikewithyou.com could create a game around ‘third world countries’ and poverty
http://www.travbuddy.com – where do I start with these ideas.

So What ACTION can you take right now?

1. Support the 30 Day Challenge KIVA fund by making a donation.

2. If you are a blogger, join in Blog Action Day.

In the foreword to a new book, Mark Joyner points out that the internet marketing crowd may, on the surface, share some common features with a cult:

“A unique language understood only by those in the cult, “guru” figures of whom many blindly follow, and bizarre rites and rituals.”

Well….

-	Unique language: squeeze pages, optin rate, conversion rate, PPC, CPM, CPA
-	Guru figures: do I even need to go there?
-	Bizarre rites and rituals: launching new websites at the drop of a hat, constantly searching for better tools (which spring up every day), working at all hours of the day or night.

While Joyner’s comparison may in some sense be accurate, there’s another word that better describes this collection of eclectic individuals we know as “internet marketers”.

Family.

Skeptical?

Think about it: in what other business arena do the major players:

-	Freely share their biggest “secrets”?
-	Promote each others’ products and services?
-	Sell to each other, and to each other’s customers?

I can’t think of any other business endeavor where successful business owners are so open and transparent with their colleagues and potential competitors (“newbies”).

And Joel Comm has now taken this transparency to a whole new level.

You may know Joel as the guy who figured out how to make Google’s Adsense a money-pumping hands-free oil well and then turned around and wrote a book about what he learned…

In the New York Times Best Seller The Adsense Code, he pulled back the curtain so others can duplicate what he did.

Joel’s new book –the one with the foreword by Mark Joyner—documents the history of the internet marketing “family”…

Click Here to Order: Stories of the World’s Most Successful Internet Marketing Entrepreneurs is the most complete background of Internet marketing that exists today.

Joel retells story after story of dozens of today’s internet marketers: how they got started and the paths they took to become successful.

Once you finish reading this book, you will never look at Internet Marketing in the same way. Not only do you get an inside look at marketers including:

-	John Resse
-	John Carlton
-	Michel Fortin
-	Willie Crawford
-	Armand Morin

Plus many others, often in their own words…

You also get the little “nuggets” of practical and strategic wisdom that Joel has deftly included too.
So the book is part family history, part marketing education, and part inspiration.

You might already be part of the family, if like me you:

-	Know what a squeeze page is
-	Spend time obsessing over your “opt-in rate”
-	Check your Clickbank or Paypal account twenty times a day
-	Continually search for better-performing keywords
-	Hang out with your online friends more than with your “offline” buddies (did someone say twitter?)

…then congratulations! You are already a member of the “family”.

If not, the fastest way to join this family is to read the book!

Pete

P.S. Don’t miss your chance to get your exclusive peek into the world of successful Internet Marketing Entrepreneurs, and take a shortcut to joining them.

P.P.S. Looks like the book version of the 30 Day Challenge is getting a lot closer to becoming a reality. We’ve had an offer from a publisher, so i’ll keep you all in the loop on that one.. Stay Tuned.

Here are the Lyrics…

LYRICS:
you want to start SEM well heres what to do
focus on a product and find a niche too
you want to get the listing
I’ll give you some assisting
SEo & SEM, they are coexisting
to cover all the bases
you must have patience
research all your keywords and your phrases
they all sound good but they may not be a factor
several ways to check and I prefer word tracker
very vague phrases should get denied
longtail keyphrases are more qualified
check the cpc, that’s the cost per click
make a judgement call, is is worth that hit
if it is then keep it
if its not then delete it
stay within your budget, that’s not a big secret
track your results, reporting is critical
and set your goals right be Google analytical
Google Adwords and Yahoo Search Marketing
if your business local make sure you geo targeting
the user only clicks on what sounds best
make sure you use very descriptive ad text
its a must that you use correct landing pages
if they see what they want, they easily persuaded
when they convert that’s a win win
when your site is bookmarked they’ll come back again
cpc will go, ctr will skyrocket
roi will get better, that’s more money in your pocket
and if you smart, you’ll invest in more phrases
but that’s up to you, I’m just giving you the basics
you got it then fine, if you don’t hit rewind
listen closely and play it back 1 more time
that’s just the start anymore might cost
I have to deal with my boss
if I tell you the secret sauce
like using paid search to enhance seo
and revolving ad text is the way to
uh oh, I gotta go, that’s too much for you to know
but if you want more, wait for the next video
